Broadway Tower Country Park
Unique Historic Monument with Museum on 3 Floors to Raise Funds for its Preservation
Broadway Tower is an iconic landmark, on top of the beautiful Cotswolds escarpment, with beautiful views and has enjoyed a colourful history since its conception by Capability Brown over 200 years ago.
The Tower and Park is a family-owned Cotswold destination set within a 50- acre estate of parkland, allowing visitors to experience great English heritage in an inspiring location. Capture the history of the Tower and Broadway’s very own Nuclear Bunker, meet William and his herd of red deer, learn a new skill from their programme of workshops, get stuck into the magical countryside on an e-bike, relax with a glass of wine over lunch at one of the two cafes, or find a lovely gift for that someone special.
Broadway Tower and their group of experiences couldn’t epitomise The Cotswolds more!
The romantic story about the building of the Tower
Broadway Tower was built in 1798 as a Gothic folly to add romance and interest to the landscape for the 6th Earl of Coventry. The 18th century was the age of building and landscaping to create picturesque and fanciful views. Follies were purpose-built "ruins" or mock mediaeval castles. A wealthy landowner with two Worcestershire residences at nearby Spring Hill and Croome Court, the tower could be seen from his residences and was a token of his enduring love for his second wife Barbara St John Bletsoe. Lady Barbara was not only wealthy but described as beautiful, charming, graceful and had a real love of the countryside. The tower is a lasting love token from the Earl to his beloved wife.

Broadway Tower and Park
An eccentric mix of architectural styles the Tower has been home to the renowned printing press of Sir Thomas Phillips, country retreat for the Pre-Raphaelite artists William Morris, Burne-Jones and Rossetti as well as a farmhouse. Visitors can relive its history on three museum floors before climbing the rooftop-viewing platform from which up to 16 counties can be seen. Stroll around the park, following our circular walk and enjoying the views and birdsong along the way.
Nuclear Bunker Tours
Close by is the nuclear bunker built to record nuclear activity during the Cold War and remaining “secret” until it’s decommissioning in 1991. Today the bunker is presented as it was during service when crewed by the Royal Observer Corps. We offer you the chance to step back in time and witness how our country would have coped if the Cold War had ever turned hot. The guided tours last around 45 minutes. The bunker is open weekends and bank holidays from April to October for guided tours only.
