Snowshill Manor
3rd May 2022 was the 70 year anniversary of Snowshill Manor and Garden NT being open and in the care of the National Trust. Just 7 minutes from Broadway village by car why not combine a visit to both?
Snowshill Manor has 'garden rooms' planted to the brim & full of interest & boldly planted pots. The garden is an extension of the manor, designed by Charles Wade and his friend, prominent Arts and Crafts architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, in 1920. If you love gardens & gardening you will love these!
On 3 May 1952, with the rain pouring down, the Trust welcomed its first visitors to Snowshill with a ceremony in the manor. Since then, many thousands of visitors have been enchanted by Charles Wade's remarkable home and collection of varied & sometimes unusual finds.
The Manor holds special memories for my brother Simon (Designer & Jewellery maker at The Goldsmithy) & I. When we were about 10 & 13 Mrs Graham Wade lived at The Broadway Hotel (and as our Dad repaired & cleaned her jewellery for her), she offered to show us around Snowshill Manor & Gardens. She told us all about her life there with her husband and then we went back to The Broadway Hotel for afternoon tea with her. She was a lovely, petite lady with lots of amazing stories.
Snowshill Manor is a typical, traditional Cotswold house, built of golden yellow local stone and set on a hillside above the Vale of Evesham. They have a calendar of events including events aimed at children in the school holidays and a café too. More at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/snowshill-manor/
